Quick word from a cool and cloudy North-Western Spain (I came dressed for Spring but should have come with some thick woolies). Tours and tastings in and around Vallodolid - reds and whites from Bierzo, more reds from Toro and some crispy delicious whites from Reuda. Latter today an introduction to Cigales.
Wines so far tasted are ´generic´ wines so no specific details of the producers but a great introduction to the region; plenty of tramping through vineyards and dodging the rain showers, fine and lengthly meals in some really atmospheric restaurants and meeting the great and the good of the Consejo Regulador.
The Zarcillo wine awards are being judged this week but I´ve escaped the rigors of the tastings to explore the vines and the region instead!

Pity you did'nt find time to go to East Galicia and discover and taste the new white Valdeorras, some of the between the most exciting whites in Sapin (As Sortes from R. Palacio). In Rueda the other great wine right now, with a great possibility to age in bottle (in Spain!), verdejo's Ossian.
Cheers!

Sadly Bierzo was the furthest I could travel; but have now enjoyed a large tasting of wines from across Castilla-Leon some excellent reds, many Gordellos (becoming a firm fave) a great many Verdejos and so on.
