Snooth Wine Search:

I was in Italy so couldn't make the trade tasting held by the Association of Small Direct Wine Makers; nice to see that Tim Atkin (writing in today's Guardian) made the effort to see what this collection of independent merchants was offering.

There are now twenty members of the association - mostly part-timers importing choice wines although some are full-fleged full time operations but still mostly run by one person.

Atkin picks out four wines from the tasting
  • Taurasi Urciuolo , 2001, Italy (£14.75 Amordivino) "complex, robust, pasta-bashing"
  • Eppalock Ridge Shiraz, 2003, Australia (£20 Boutique Wine Company) "poised, minty, vanilla-perfumed"
