Available from Corkr for £22.99 [read more].
A delightful fully mature Claret. The nose in this sample has developed into something quite meaty and earthy with an underpinning of black fruits - it is distinctive enough to perhaps show a little dung/undergrowth characters that I know many dislike, but personally, in such small quantities such as here, it just adds to the complexity. The palate is smooth and silky just crying out for a slice or two of lamb or beef.

Excellent that a small merchant can offer fully mature wines at an acceptable price. I am sure stocks are limited. A claret at its peak of drinking.

The La Tour de By website gives a figure of 75 hectares for the size of the tour de By estate (although other guides mention 64 or 74 ha), which is quite a large holding. The property sits on a knoll adjacent to the river estuary with the famous old lighthouse depicted on the label.

Scribblings Rating - 88/100
