Wine Tasting Note:
Chimney Creek Sauvignon Blanc, 2004, Marlborough, New Zealand.
Available from
Oddbins (2006) for £6.99
Yet another Kiwi Sauvignon. You all know the drill – fresh, crisp, piercing acidity wrapped up in a pillow of gooseberry-passionfruit, grassiness. This has a touch more to it though, a little fuller and rounder perhaps; accounted for by the addition of Chardonnay and Semillon which isn’t mentioned on the label. I failed to notice and just put it down to a touch of sweetness or riper fruit. It is clean, fresh and punchy. Yep, yet another Kiwi Sauvignon.
Chimney Creek is the UK export label for the Giesen Wine Estate. Grape Mix : 85% Sauvignon Blanc, 11% Chardonnay & 4% Semillon.
Scribblings Rating – 88/100
As a red wine fan with limited exposure to the white stuff I would like to add that this is an absolutely fabulous wine! I had a bottle in a mixed case from Oddbins as a present and was really impressed. So much so that I’m hunting down a local supplier!
It just seems to get better with each passing vintage; glad you enjoy it too Andy
