Drinks By The Dram Christmas Crackers

By In Reviews
Did you know that the origin of the Christmas Cracker dates back to the 1850’s when a London sweet maker, Tom Smith, returning from France thought to include a motto inside a wrapped sweet based on the almonds he had seen wrapped in pretty paper. He later added the cracker element and his son Walter later added the crown. Christmas Day dinner is not complete without the paper hat in my family; even the tackiest of plastic ‘toys’ hold a fascination. Even for a few brief moemnts as we await the arrival of the main course.

Of course you find all types of luxury Christmas Crackers but how about a set geared exclusively to the drink lover? Head on over to Drinks By The Dram for full details or to Master of Malt to Buy.

For £44.95 you receive a pack of quality crackers, complete with gold paper crowns, with a gift of either whiskey, gin or spirit/liqueurs in a 3cl bottle. A darn site more interesting than a plastic magnifying glass or a key ring. There is also a Luxury Whisky pack, with drams at the more exclusive end of the range.

The Luxury Whisky set (£69.95), which I was sent last week, contains a dram of Glengoyne 21 Year Old, Dalmore 15 Year Old, Kilchoman 100% Islay 6th Edition, Highland Park 18 Year Old – Xtra Old Particular (Douglas Laing), Glenfarclas 2009 (bottled 2016) (cask 1805) plus party hats, crap jokes and detailed tasting notes.

“Crackers were originally called ‘cosaques’ and were thought to be named after the ‘Cossack’ soldiers who had a reputation for riding on their horses and firing guns into the air!”

Drinks By The Dram Christmas Crackers are available from Ocado, Amazon, Majestic Wines, Master of Malt and Selfridges amongst other retailers.
