The people, the country and the wine – the three strands that combined to make the 2012 European Wine Bloggers Conference such a success. Here a little gallery of the first strand, the people – just a small sampling of the those met during the all-too-brief days in Istanbul, in Izmir and in Cappadocia.

In all 280 participants from 40 different countries travelled to Turkey. As is the ‘tradition’ arrival for me is via train, joined this year by The fabulous Budd’s, we travelled from Istanbul via ferry (and an unplanned taxi) to Izmir on the exotic sounding Eylul Express. And then indulged in a hedonistic few days and being enlightened on Turkish wine, their foods, the history and the culture in general. All enlivened by meeting old EWBC friends and making plenty of new ones.

Strictly Come Dancing in deepest Turkey!

  2. Great portraits! Although I wonder if I would not have cropped out the eyes in no. 10?? Otherwise your own eye is constantly drawn to them.

    • Thanks… yep, number 10 doesn’t quite work (and in my defence it was a rather snatched snap) but I liked the light on the hand and the glass is in focus least!
