Berry Brothers & Rudd have recently announced a "major enhancement" to their delivery service - you can now select to receive your order on any day you like at no extra charge. Even a Saturday.
Such a facility has long been the norm for the supermarkets, and for me, more important than a "next day delivery" service. Sunday is set aside for online things, paying bills, downloading tunes played the previous evening by Criag Charles, supermarket ordering and the like. It is also a day set aside for topping up the wine rack and planning out the timetable for the coming week, so being able to select a delivery day (if not a time) is vital for my 'lifestyle' although I imagine others have different priorities.
Thought a poll might yield some interesting results as would an overview of the available options from a select range of the UK's larger wine merchants.RSS readers will have to click through to the web page to participate.
- Virgin Wines - £6.99 for delivery in 3-5 days. £8.99 for next day (order before 1pm)
- Berry Bros & Rudd - delivery minimum £100 order. Delivery including next day is free.
- Wine Society - Free for 12 bottles or £75 minimum order. Up to 14 days. Next day £5.50 (order before 1pm)
- Naked Wines - £4.99 for next day (order before 5pm) 6 bottle minimum.
- Laithwaites - 4 seasons club £6.99 for delivery in 3 days. No next day scheme. 12 bottle minimum.
- Oddbins - £6.99 (12 bottles) Next day £9.99. Free delivery on orders over £100.
- Averys of Bristol - £6.99 (12 bottles) 'within a week' no next day scheme.
The small print often stipulates that the Scottish Highlands, The Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, The Scilly Isles and Northern Ireland are usually excluded from any free delivery or will have an extra charge levied. Berry Bros excludes these regions from their specific day facility.
From this little sampling it would appear that Naked Wines offers the best delivery package if you wish to order just a little wine rack top-up. Berry Brothers if you have a £100 or more to spend.

You are forgetting those that don't charge for delivery.
FromVineyardsDirect (www.fromvineyardsdirect.com). Free Delivery on orders of 12 bottles or more (from as little as £71.40) - no option of next day delivery though.

Fran here from Naked Wines.
As well as next day delivery for £4.99, we also offer Saturday delivery for £6.99.
And customers can also pick another working day if they don't want next day (again, £4.99).
Oh, and any orders over £100 qualify for free delivery...

I think free delivery can be quite important to customers shopping for wine online, especially if the delivery cost is not clearly stated before getting to the shopping cart. I know that at times, I tend to be surprised by the amount that ends up being added for delivery when I have put my items into the shopping cart and I often therefore click off without purchasing anything.
