Don’t ignore these… they might well be from Jacobs Creek, a brand so easily dismissed by wine-aficionados (“It’s a big corporate brand from Australia… run for the hills!”). Equally you could dismiss them as corporate fluff. But each of the three people featured do actually appear as interesting people, each with a story and each with a role in producing Jacobs Creek.
There is Ducati-riding Rebekah Richardson, Sparkling wine maker, Bernard Hickin the head of the wine making team, and my favourite, old-timer Aubrey Rosenzweig a dab hand in the vineyard with a pair of clippers is ol’ Aub.
When was the last time you drank a Jacobs Creek? These might just have you reaching for a bottle…
Opening with the ‘basic’ wines he was almost apologetic at their simplicity. Personally I found them a delight; no idea of price at the time (the top of the range comes in at a very reasonable €20 cellar door) but to a bottle these ‘lesser’ wines were lovely, offering a balanced richness, a true regional acidic streak in the RI.VA.LE Chianti and a touch riper, softer palate to the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
