Their cocktail menu lists just three ingredients – orange bitters, maraschino liqueur and gin. No mention of vermouth at all. American cocktail sites and the Epicurious video below add vermouth. Personally I thought the Excelsior’s version was spot on. I really should have asked at the time which gin they use though.
The bars in the Westin Excelsior (there is another on the 6th floor with amazing views, but more on that in another post!) charge €12 for their cocktails. Other gin based delights on their Martini Menu include The Hemmingway (gin, spray of martini extra dry) and The Gibson (gin, martini extra dry, pickled onion). But if vodka is more your baby then perhaps the Green Apple Martini (vodka, apple brandy, sweet and sour), the Lemon Drop (lemon vodka, lime and fresh lemon) or the White Chocolate Martini (orange vodka, white cocoa liqueur, chocolate shavings) is more your bag?
Located on the lobby level, ORVM Bar is a warm, inviting space to enjoy light meals and delicious cocktails. Art deco design and live music create a sophisticated, glamorous atmosphere. Two imposing orange chandeliers cast a warm light over the art deco-inspired space. A brass block that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century has been preserved as a reminder of the hotel’s rich history.
