Drinking is to be banned in parks and other Scottish open air venues in the latest knock-on result of the smoking ban. Local authorities want to crack down on drinking al-fresco amid public order fears over pub-goers taking their pints outside when they go for a cigarette - not that the police have reported any increase of such incidents...

"as well as affecting alcohol consumption on the streets, the ban will also stop drinkers enjoying wine with picnics and could hit some major outdoor events. Growing concerns that arguments and violence are more likely has led to the clamp-down, but it comes despite police forces reporting no change in the level of anti-social behaviour since the smoking ban was brought in last month.
