Perderberg began life in 1942 but it wasn’t until 2005 that they began to bottle and market their own wines. This Vineyard Collection bottle offers pear, peach and tropical flavours with a rich palate tempered by a streak of citrus acidity. Lovely stuff.
PERDEBERG WINERY located in Paarl in the heart of the Boland of the Western Cape, enjoys one of the finest wine-growing regions of the Cape. Established as a co-operative in 1941, this now privately owned winery lies at the foot of the magnificent Paardeberg Mountain, named after the scores of Cape Mountain Zebra that once roamed this beautiful mountainside. From a domestic perspective, Perderberg is the highest awarded winery in South Africa. The unique composition of the vineyards defines Perdeberg’s inimitable style covering multiple micro-climates, 75% of which are un-irrigated, whilst 50% are un-trellised, yielding a very low average of 7.8 tons per hectare. Cellar Marster, Albertus Louw, reveals “These dry land bush vines create far better fruit concentration than vines subjected to unnatural vineyard practices, like irrigation. The structure and complexity in these smaller berries bring intense colour, added body and passionate flavours. At Perdeberg Winery, we prefer to set trends rather than follow them and we never compromise the exceptional quality of our wines”.
Perdeberg Winery Vineyard Collection Chenin Blanc 2015
“Lush and intense, this refreshing little number comes flying out of the glass. It’s from old vine stock that gives intense juiciness and concentration of fruit. This wine is pure citrus and pear joy. It is made by Marinda Kruger-Van Eck, someone we have been working with for ages. She spends her whole working life in the vines, gathering intel on what’s hot and what’s not. She then delivers the best of it all in the winery” Virgin Wines
