ricketybridge_shiraz03.jpg Rickety Bridge Winery has a long history - from the first planting of grapes in 1830 through to the more relevant planting program of 1989 and the following 'first vintage' in 1992 with the first wine produced from these vines - 6663 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winery has had limited exposure in the UK but now Trevor Mayor via GreatWineOnline offers them for sale direct.

Red WineWine Tasting Note: Rickety Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003, Franschoek, South Africa.
From GreatWineOnline for £10.95.
A big wine - gorgeously ripe with cherry fruit aroma, an earthy depth and a touch of cassis. Plenty of soft tannin and a good length. A full, rounded palate - a delicious amalgam of ripe black-fruits, chocolate and a savoury edge. Fine gravelly tannins. Alcohol 14%.
Scribblings Rating - 92/100 [4 out of 5]

Red WineWine Tasting Note: Rickety Bridge Shiraz, 2003, Franschoek, South Africa.
From GreatWineOnline for £13.95.
Another big wine and again ripe and full. Plenty of refined pepper and raspberry fruit with a sharp-berry twist on the finish. Lovely structure and mouth feel. Alcohol 14%.
Scribblings Rating - 88/100 [3.5 out of 5]

White WineWine Tasting Note: Rickety Bridge Sauvignon Blanc, 2006, Franschoek, South Africa.
From GreatWineOnline for £6.95.
Very pale in colour, initially a yeasty edge than a rather disappointing weak lime aroma. Palate is fine, light, crisp, a touch of spritz, medium-bodied, lime, tangerine-skin flavours. Soft texture. Grapefruit and Ugli Fruit. With food the spritz more noticeable. Unwooded. Alcohol 12.7%.
Scribblings Rating - 84/100 [3 out of 5]

White WineWine Tasting Note: Rickety Bridge Chenin Blanc, 2006, Franschoek, South Africa.
From GreatWineOnline for £6.95.
Nice weight, good lightly honeyed, herby aroma, fresh cress and quince, with a soft textural palate, crisp finish - guava, lime and quince flavours. Rather nice. Alcohol 14%.
Scribblings Rating - 90/100 [3.75 out of 5]

White WineWine Tasting Note: Rickety Bridge Semillon, 2004, Franschoek, South Africa.
Available from GreatWineOnline for £7.95.
An excellent honeyed 'Semillon' aroma. Good length. Medium-bodied. Lovely smooth mid-palate and a rounded, dry finish that offers a burst of quince and citrus acidity on the finish. Alcohol 13%
Scribblings Rating - 90/100 [3.75 out of 5]

Nice to see some South African wine taking centre stage here on Spittoon!

Haven't tried the Ricketies so will try give them a go soon!!

would be great if you could hunt them down as interested in others opinions - especially the Sauvignon Blanc...
