sanctuary wine pukeko White WineWine Tasting Note: Sanctuary Sauvignon Blanc, 2006, Marlborough, New Zealand.
Listed by Sainsbury's for £6.99.
Someone mumbled sweet pea - didn't get that myself but the usual exuberant Marlborough style of Sauvignon was certainly in evidence perhaps tempered with a touch of sweetness and an intriguing complexity. A range of flavoors that could be described as sweet-pea, I suppose, but seemed more melon and tropical fruits to me. Nice weight and a pleasant comination when partnered with a Corn Chowder Soup served with Goat's Cheese topped crusty bread.

A touch of residual sugar evens the palate without decreasing the freshness and crisp finish. A fine New Zealand Sauvignon that is produced by Grove Mill the first Carbon Neutral company in New Zealand. Alcohol 13%.
Scribblings Rating - 88/100 [3.5 out of 5]

Sanctuary has had a label revamp for the next vintage that features the Pukeko bird more prominently and in full, glorious, colour.

Flamboyant, charismatic, sophisticated and colourful - the Pukeko is the striking mascot for our Sanctuary range of wines. This indigenous New Zealand wetland bird was selected to represent Sanctuary as its characteristics truly reflect the Sanctuary style of wine.

Pukekos are also a resident of our wetland situated beside our winery. Pukekos are regularly spotted strutting around our surrounding vineyards in search of food. Their unique behavior provides amusing entertainment for our visitors and staff. In return we have provided a safe Sanctuary for Pukekos to live.

Our aim in producing Sanctuary wines is to reflect the unique flavours the Marlborough wine region is renowned for. Sanctuary wines make a fantastic accompaniment to your favourite foods or simply to enjoy on their own.

Sanctuary wines are produced by parent company, The New Zealand Wine Company, who are also responsible for Grove Mill and Frog Haven wineries.
