For this Guy Fawkes weekend it just had to be a sparkler! This Sauvion, a Cremant de Loire, offers plenty of apple and peach flavours over a fresh, lively whole. Its mainly from Chenin Blanc but also has a little Chardonnay to add complexity and weight. This weekends cold evenings, crunchy leaves afoot, the distinctive smell of expired fireworks hanging in the air, might call for a hearty red wine. But I felt a more appetiser friendly sparkling wine would be fun. Sparkler in one hand; Sparkling Wine in the other. The warming pumpkin soup followed after.
A blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes from vineyards around Angers, Saumur and Tours; made by the Traditional Method with the wine being aged for a year in bottle prior to release. The mousse is rich and frothy with ripe up-front flavours of peach and white-fleshed fruits, followed by a refreshing finish.
