The website – seesawwine.com – is equally as forthcoming. They only list a white wine. It’s a slick website that clearly hasn’t been updated since 2009. The wine was purchased from Waitrose, a hastily snatched bottle in anticipation for todays Wine Blogging Wednesday (the 71st edition hosted by WineCast) but even their website doesn’t list the wine… just that Semillon/Sauvignon blend again, which doesn’t meet the criteria for this WBW (Rhone wines outside the Rhone).
Thing is, I am rather enjoying drinking the wine. With no time remaining to purchase an alternative this will have to do!
Offering that gamut of New World richness combined with soft tannins, a nice medley of ripe berry fruits, high alcohol and a smoothness every bit as slick as the See Saw website this is one bottle of Australian red I’m be happy to pay the £8.99 asking price. Just a shame I can’t discover much about it.
Whether I would guess it as a Rhone-styled blend is a difficult one; there is a touch of pepper and spice but that luscious layer of fruit – found on pretty much everything Aussie – tends, to me at least, to drown out any specific varietal characteristics.
So just a quick slurp or two to ensure this Wine Blogging Wednesday post gets out in time. Out now with friends; who enviably will return and drink the house dry later… I’ll see what they think of this…
