Spiegelau Perfect Serve Glass Collection

By In Cocktails
A little chat over my little Instagram cocktail.collection project brought up the subject of glasses. Over the last few years I’ve amassed over 100 different glasses – mostly for cocktail use interestingly. Most of the expensive wine glasses I’ve purchased just don’t last rigorous usage. One of the questions was which glasses I use repeatidly, for actual usage, rather than as a prop. The answer? Three from the Spiegelau Perfect Serve Glass Collection.

The Spiegelau Perfect Serve Glass Collection was designed by Stephan Hinz, an award winning bar manager and author. A quick search on Amazon brings up a few German language books so I assume his books that apparently ‘revolutionized bar literature’ have not been translated into English.

But this post is all about the glass. Three from the Spiegelau Perfect Serve Glass Collection see regular use. The Perfect Serve Coupette Glass, (great for cocktails such as the Cosmopolitan, rum Daiquiri’s, Margarita’s and so on), the Perfect Serve Cocktail Glass (for sipping on a Gimlet, a Manhattan, Martini’s etc) and the Perfect Serve Short Old Fashioned (SOF) Glass (for such delights as a Negroni or a Whisky Sour). See below for a couple of suggested cocktails.

The Idea
“Enjoyment has many forms, but the demands for a really good glass remain the same. That’s why we’ve combined functionality with timeless elegance. And those are qualities that last, regardless of short-term trends” Stephan Hinz

Also in this range are a nosing glass, a tasting glass, and various sizes of mixing glasses for when a cocktail requires a stir rather than a shake.

Lion’s Club Cocktail
60ml Haig Club Whisky
15ml Allspice Dram
15ml Lime Juice
6ml Sugar Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice and serve in a stylish cocktail glass ( here a Spiegelau Perfect Serve #martini glass). Garnish, if it’s your want, with a slice of candied orange. The original Lion’s Tail stipulated no garnish.

Bijou Cocktail
40ml Gin
25ml Green Chartreuse
40ml red (sweet) vermouth
1 dash Angostura Orange Bitters

You are supposed to stir all the ingredients with ice; but unleashing my reckless side I gave them a shake, with ice. Garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Red Frog Cocktail from the cocktail.collection

Red Frog Cocktail
30ml Chambord
30ml Amaretto

60ml Cranberry Juice

Shake all with ice. Serve, over ice. No garnish, ’cause that would be girly.
