Sunshine Olives and Wine Grapes Puglia Style

The Baroque façade of the Chiesa S. Maria Assunta in Guagnano, Puglia, is the towns central square. In its four corners were planters one of which I noted was decorated with this small tile. It pretty much epitomises this area of Italy – sunshine, olives and wine grapes. I thought at the time of taking the photo – during a marvellous Negroamaro Wine Tour – that it would make a lovely addition to the Sunday Wine Shot photo gallery.

The church, incidentally, was completed in 1798 but includes a 15th century building erected on the site where an older image of the Virgin of the Rosary was discovered. Inside is a painting a detail of which appears on a local wineries bottle labels. We were on our way to the winery to discover their story…
