The younger profile and sexier image enjoyed by Scotch in many overseas markets appears to be tantalising the tastebuds of a similar group, especially women, nearer home.
"The UK accounts for about 10% of global whisky sales in a market where Scotch has until recently been perceived as 'your grandfather's drink'. That image could be about to change despite overall sales of whisky showing a modest increase of 0.3% last year compared to 2003."

Seems much like the intiatives taken by the Cognac producers to compensate for the decline in consumption - basically add ice and spritzy mixers to make something exciting - but cognac it ain't - especially when cheap Spanish brandy produces better results at lower price without having to desecrate a revered spirit!
