Blue Nun Pinot Grigio Riesling wine bottleI know what you are thinking - "What is one of the most risible big brands doing on a website that champions smaller producers, the obscure and the interesting?". A sample arrived earlier in the week; in the interest of critic-integrity each must be judged on its merits and given an open and fair hearing.

White WineWine Tasting Note: Blue Nun Pinot Grigio Riesling, 2005, Pfalz, Germany.
Exclusive to Tesco for £4.99.
Pleasant enough aroma, lightly lemony with a hint of hazelnuts. A little sweetness on the palate, smoothing the crisp acidity. A little spritz too, keeping it all fresh and lively. Uncomplicated with simple lemon, apple and pear flavours.
Scribblings Rating - 84/100

In short, a simple wine sure to be popular with the Pinot Grigio crowd. Uncomplicated. Washed down a seafood risotto nicely enough.

This addition to the Blue Nun range joins the Original in the signature blue fluted bottle (£3.99), a Rosé (£4.49 from Spain), a single varietal Riesling (£4.49) and a Merlot (£4.49).

Blue Nun has most recently added a delicious new Pinot Grigio Riesling to the range, which appeals to today's younger drinkers. The new wine combines the classic German Riesling grape with the UK's current most popular white wine variety, Pinot Grigio, also from the banks of the Rhine river in Germany, to create a delicious new, easy drinking wine blend. Pinot Grigio Riesling is a drier style of wine with a subtle fruity tone with hints of apples, pears and citrus."
