Christophe Chapillon is a Frenchman and a "somewhat maverick businessman" living in Zaragoza, Spain. He recently sourced some old vine Syrah and Merlot, and asked Manuel Piquer, a renown wine-maker, to form a wine from the parcel. Exclusive to The Winery £6.99 [more]
Smooth, medium to full bodied, packed with a medley of black-fruits and a nice edge of oak. Delicious easy drinking on its own but powerful enough to handle a nice chunk of cheddar as a late night filler. Unusually for the region the blend does not utilise any 'native' grapes being a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Merlot. The characteristic pepper/spice edge from the Syrah component is evident but the wine still retains plenty of Spanish character.
