Domaine de L'Olivette Blanc, 2006, VdP des Coteaux de CabrerisseI'm still thinking a a Sauvignon Blanc or a Viognier would be the better match but here we are with a Southern French white; a blend of Grenache, Bourboulenc and Marsanne. Interesting to be sure. The food, a Spanish Chicken with Grapefruit dish (taken from 1008 Recipes) , I had a feeling was going to be a tricky match. And frankly this wine couldn't have been worse!

The colour of a delicate peach or a pink grapefruit and aromas of aniseed, white blossom and cobnuts. A soft texture at first with a mineral edge and a finish of nuts and pithy citrus flavours. Acidity is quite high, which I was hoping would cut through the cream component in the sauce.

The grapefruit component in the sauce really jarred against the wine. While both the food and the wine were in themselves delicious together not a good pairing.

The wine is made in the 16th century Chateau de Caraguilhes, an estate that once formed part of the famous Cistercian Abbey of Frontfroide (which is in South West France near Carcassonne). Made with organically grown grapes. Alcohol 13%.
