Beau has made it to Austria. Re-claimed his wallet from a taxi and set off to discover the vinos wonders of Austria. Those who remain behind have to do their Austrian explorations via the shelves of the local offie. Waitrose had but one, a Grüner Veltliner. Slim pickings but this bottle was great with an Asparagus and Cheese Tart.

Wine Tasting Note: Felsner Grüner Veltliner, 2005, Kremstal, Austria.

From the shelves of Waitrose for £8.15.
Gentle lemon on the aroma; gentle in so far as there is a suspicion of cut lemon juiciness lying in the lush undergrowth next to a river-bank swollen with spring rains. A stony edge pervades the palate; very crisp on its own, citrus again, with a long white pepper finish. Fine on its own but really a food wine. Waitrose suggests cheese, pork casseroles, duck or guinea fowl. We went for a simple Asparagus and Cheese Tart; delicious. Screwcapped. Alcohol 12.5%.
Scribblings Rating - 90/100
