Honeywood Sauvignon BlancThe wine aisle in Tesco seldom excites; even the slightly dusty 'fine wine' display in my local branch. But in an attempt to break-away from the Waitrose/Oddbins bias that has been creeping into Spittoon recently I picked up a Sauvignon Blanc...

Wine Tasting Note:Ironstone Vineyards Honeywood Sauvignon Blanc, 2005, Lodi, California.
Listed at Tesco for £5.99.
Green and clean. An unassuming, not overly complex aroma with a fleeting hint of passionfruit. Palate is light and crisp with simple green apple flavours. None of the minerality you can find in Loire and New Zealand Sauvignon's but a gentle, lightly creamy palate. It struggled when served with a creamy potato gratin so the recommendation is for something more delicate - baked fish or salads perhaps.

The Honeywood wines are produced at the Ironstone Vineyards by British winemaker Dominic Hentall. He has been working in California for the last 6 years.
Scribblings Rating - 86/100
