While not as minerally or as textured as the rather good Sancerre sampled at last Thursdays goats cheese tasting laid on by Neal's Yard Dairy, this Menetou-Salon was as punchy and delicious as any decent Loire Sauvignon should be. The racy acidity stood up well to the ginger vinaigrette that splattered tonight's Tuna Tartare but was a better match for a creamy, young, goats cheese purloined from the cheese tasting...

Wine Tasting Note: Christophe and Guy Turpin Menetou-Salon, 2004, Loire, France.
Available from Waitrose for £8.99.
Crisp and racy acidity overlaying a fresh palate. Grassy. Quite soft on the palate flavour-wise with a splurge of grassy fruit emerging on the finish. Medium body and quite good length. If the austerely mineral edge of many a Sancerre are a little too nervy for you this Menetou-Salon, from an area that borders Sancerre to the South West, may be more to your preference. Alcohol 12.55.
Scribblings Rating - 90/100
