Red WineWine Tasting Note: Valdivieso Pinot Noir Reserve, 2005, Casablanca Valley, Chile.
Picked up from Waitrose for £8.99 (£8.54 online).
Deep and colourful for a Pinot Noir, very New World. Aroma has an edge of spice to the cherry, strawberry and blackfruits. Mirrored on the palate with a little varietal definition with a slice of vegetal undergrowth, just a touch mind under the ripe, deliciously sweet fruit. Medium bodied. Alcohol 13.5%. Stylish packaging.
Excellently matched with a couple of Cornish Braised Veal Cutlets, topped with creamy mashed potato.
Scribblings Rating – 90/100

This wine is an example of Chilean Pinot Noir, being intense in colour, flavour, and structure. This is what we want to show, is the character our climate and soils imparts on the wine. We do not wish to simply try and copy, a French model, but rather let the vines express themselves as they develop here.” Valdiviesovineyard.com

Opened this wine for dinner tonight. Wow! It’s so spectacular! Nice deep garnet color; smoky aroma; and textured earthy mushroomy flavor. Went so good with my Grilled Eggplant Foccacia! Wish I had more! :(
